Worst tree removal day I've had in 10 years
Last Tuesday I was pulling a dead oak out of a backyard in Austin and the rope snapped right as I had it halfway down. The whole top came crashing through a neighbor's fence and took out their brand new grill. Spent 4 hours cleaning up and apologizing while the homeowner just stood there with this look on her face. Has anyone else had a job go sideways like that where nothing went right from the start?

Man, a brand new grill? That hurts just reading it. I can't believe the rope snapped mid-drop like that, that's just bad luck on a whole other level. The look on that homeowner's face probably said it all too, like watching a train wreck in slow motion. You must have felt like the universe was just piling it on that day. Hope you didn't have to pay for that grill.

I used to think that if you inspected your gear regularly, stuff like this was mostly avoidable. But reading about that rope snapping clean through with no warning, on a brand new grill no less, it really makes you realize sometimes things just break. You can check every inch of the line and still get caught off guard. That homeowner must have been sick, watching that new grill get destroyed before it even hit the ground. It's one of those things that just stays with you, a hard lesson in how unpredictable this work can be.
