A local historian in Savannah told me my "authentic" arrowhead was a bottle cap from the 1950s
I bought it from a roadside stall for $40 and was ready to donate it to a museum, but after he pointed out the stamped metal edge I just had to laugh at myself. Have you ever had an expert totally burst your bubble on a find?

Yeah the "story is worth more" thing is true but only up to a point. $40 for a bottle cap is rough. I mean it's funny in hindsight but that's still a solid chunk of change you coulda spent on lunch or something. At least you didn't chip a tooth trying to bite it to test the authenticity like some people do.

My cousin found an "authentic Civil War bullet" that turned out to be a modern fishing weight, so I totally get the laugh at yourself moment. But honestly, for $40 you got a cool story and a fun conversation piece, so that's not a total loss in my book. Your mileage may vary, but sometimes the story behind the fake is worth more than the real thing.
