Broke my trowel on a dig site in Arizona last Tuesday

I was scraping away a layer of caliche on a Hohokam site near Phoenix and my trusty Marshalltown trowel just snapped right at the handle. The blade flew off and hit my field partner in the boot. Anyone have a brand of trowel that holds up better on hard desert soil?

Honestly I heard some old timer at the geology shop say the WHS trowels with the full tang are like tanks for caliche. Might be worth a try if you're busting through that desert crust a lot.

Are we really out here acting like caliche is some kind of unbeatable boss fight though? I mean yeah it's annoying but I've broken through it with a regular Marshalltown just fine, it just takes a little patience. Feels like sometimes people want to turn a simple dig into a whole military operation with special gear and everything. Next thing you know someone will be selling us titanium trowels for 200 bucks because it can handle one extra rock. I dunno, just seems like overkill for something you can solve by taking a few more swings or wetting the ground a little...
