Got lost in a cave in New Mexico and found weird markings on the wall

I took a wrong turn in Carlsbad Caverns last month and stumbled into this small side chamber nobody told me about. There were these strange symbols scratched into the rock that looked way older than the park signs suggested. Has anybody else run into unexplained markings in a cave system like that?

Way older than the park signs suggested" really got me. I went to Carlsbad a few years back and those main tunnels are so controlled with all the lighting and railings. Finding a side chamber nobody knows about is wild. Did the markings look more like old Native American petroglyphs or something else entirely? I'm trying to picture how scratched into the rock they were because that sounds totally different from the usual tourist stuff.
