Honestly, spent three whole days trying to get a single piece of Roman glass out of a trench in York

Tbh, it was this tiny, perfect blue shard stuck in really wet clay, and my trowel just kept slipping. Ngl, I finally got it with a dental pick after like 30 hours of careful work. Anyone know a better trick for super delicate finds in muck?

30 hours of careful work" is just blowing my mind. That's like a full work week for a tiny piece of glass. I would have lost my patience after the first day, for real. The focus that must take is just wild to me.

Break it into smaller chunks, like two-hour sessions with a timer. Put on a podcast or some music you don't have to think about. The trick is to stop before you get frustrated, even if you're in the middle of something.

Honestly I get what vera is saying but that "full work week" feeling is the whole point. If you just want the object you can buy Roman glass online. The real find is proving you have the patience to get it out right. That 30 hours isn't wasted, it's what makes the piece actually yours.
