I finally got why a friend goes wild over those broken pottery shards

I was having coffee with a buddy who does volunteer work at a local dig site. He picked up a tiny piece of ceramic from the parking lot gravel and got all excited explaining how the glaze pattern pointed to a specific 1800s kiln maybe 50 miles away. That moment hit me different because I always saw those fragments as just trash, but he saw a whole story about trade and daily life. Has anyone else had a conversation that totally flipped how you look at something ordinary?

Wow, that's a really cool way to look at it... I love how some people can see the hidden history in everyday stuff like that. It makes you wonder how many stories are just sitting there in plain sight that we're totally missing.

Do you ever wonder if some of those hidden stories are literally written in the architecture of old buildings? Like, some cities have these faded store signs from 100 years ago that are still painted on the brick, telling you what businesses used to be there. It's basically a time capsule if you know where to look.
