I thought the 'Roman concrete' find in my town was just a pile of old bricks
A local dig near the old riverbank turned up what looked like a broken wall, but the site lead showed us the mortar mix had volcanic ash, a specific recipe from about 80 AD. Seeing the lab report with the chemical match from Pompeii made me a believer. Has anyone else had a find that seemed ordinary until the science came back?

Found a weird lump in my yard last year, thought it was a melted plastic toy. Turned out to be a blob of colonial-era lead seal, lmao. My big archeology find was basically trash.

Ever hear about the guy who bought an old farmhouse and kept finding weird metal bits in the garden? He was sure it was just junk from a past owner until he took a few to a local history fair. Turns out they were hand-forged nails and a broken stirrup from like the 1820s. His whole "scrap pile" was basically a time capsule of the first people who lived there. Makes you wonder what we're tossing out now that'll be cool in two hundred years.
