My $80 metal detector find was a bust

I bought a cheap detector online for about eighty bucks, hoping to find some cool old stuff on a friend's farm near Lexington. All I dug up after three hours was a bunch of rusty nails and a crushed soda can from the 1990s. Has anyone else had a funny fail with a piece of gear that got your hopes up?

My $40 "SkyRocket" drone lasted exactly one flight before it decided a neighbor's roof was home. I feel you, paige427. The controller had a mind of its own, like it was trying to escape.

Actually found a 1990s can with a cheap detector, that's a decent signal. Those things can pick up modern aluminum just fine. Your machine probably worked right, it just found the wrong kind of old stuff.
