My brush survived 5 digs then cracked in my backpack on the ride home
Was out at a site near Santa Fe last Saturday. Had this nice soft brush I'd been using for 3 seasons, worked perfect for clearing dust off pottery shards. Packed it in my gear bag like always, but when I pulled it out Sunday morning the handle had this big split right down the middle. Guess it got crushed under my trowel and a rock sample bag. Had to finish the day using a crappy paintbrush from the dollar store. Anyone else had a favorite tool just give up on you out of nowhere? What do you use to keep your gear safe in transit?

Yeah the sock trick is solid but I'd say it's more about how you pack the bag itself. Trowel and rock samples are a recipe for destruction no matter what you wrap stuff in. I started using a small plastic ammo box for my delicate tools and haven't lost a brush since.

Started wrapping my brush in an old tube sock after a similar crack last year. Seems like the universe picking its moments to remind us our best tools are just fancy sticks with bristles.
