My cousin at a dig in York said 'the real story is always in the garbage pits, not the tombs' and it changed how I see the whole field...
He was cleaning a 14th-century latrine, holding a broken comb, and said we learn more about daily life from one trash heap than from a dozen fancy burials with gold.

Yeah, that's the thing, isn't it? It's like how you can tell more about someone from their junk drawer than from their fancy front room. The fancy stuff is for show, but the trash is where the real, messy, boring life happens. We're all just building future garbage pits with our takeout containers and broken phone chargers. Makes you wonder what someone will figure out about us from a landfill in a thousand years.
