My first dig in Tucson and the 'artifact' that turned out to be a toy
I was volunteering on a site near the Santa Cruz River, carefully brushing dirt away from what looked like a perfect little clay pot. My supervisor, Dr. Chen, came over and after about thirty seconds just started laughing. It was a tiny, factory-made flower pot from a kid's gardening set, probably from the 1990s. Now I triple-check everything that looks a little too perfect and clean. Anyone else have a story about finding something modern that totally fooled you at first?

They're probably just looking for more potholes to fix later. The city has a real talent for digging up the same spot twice. What are they hoping to find down there, buried treasure?

Yeah, they're always digging somewhere. Feels like the whole city is just one big construction site that moves around every few months.
