My view on ancient parenting got flipped by some broken doll pieces

I assumed parents back then had NO time for kids. Holding those artifacts proved they set aside time for JOY. How do old objects affect your family thoughts?

I used to believe the same thing, that parents long ago were only focused on hard work and duty. Cleaning out my aunt's attic, I stumbled on a box of my great-uncle's childhood tin soldiers. Each one was bent and scratched from years of pretend battles. It clicked that his parents saved up to buy those, valuing his fun over other needs. Touching them made his childhood real to me, not just a story. Those little objects bridge the gap between then and now, showing care was always there.

Honestly, same. I was helping clean out my grandma's house last year and found her old thread china, the stuff she got for her wedding. All these little cups with hairline cracks, carefully kept. It hit me that her whole life wasn't just about keeping house, it was about wanting pretty things and nice moments even when money was tight. Holding that thin cup made me see her as a young woman, not just my grandma. Stuff like that makes you feel the weight of all their quiet hopes.

Wow, it's like @danielhenderson's soldiers and your china both show love in the smallest, kept things.
