Professor Harrison said radiocarbon dating was overrated for coastal sites but I just got 3,400-year-old charcoal from a shell midden in Galway that matched perfectly

After he told our field school that marine reservoir effects made carbon dates useless near the sea, I spent six months fighting my advisor to get the samples run anyway and now I have the only absolute dates for that entire region, has anyone else dealt with a senior archaeologist who dismisses whole methods based on old textbook warnings?

I actually used to AGREE with him until this changed my mind.

Funny you say that, @kelly.nora. I had the same thing happen with a podcast I liked - one episode just flipped my whole view on it. Now I can't even listen to the old stuff the same way.
