PSA: Those Roman coins from eBay are probably not what you think

I bought a set of 5 Roman bronze coins from a seller in Bulgaria for $45 last spring, hoping to add some genuine history to my small collection. When I got them tested at a local university lab, 3 turned out to be modern cast fakes made from a lead alloy. Has anyone else run into this problem with eastern European sellers, and what red flags do you look for now?

Funny how everywhere you turn these days, someone's trying to pass off fake stuff as the real deal.

Man, tell me about it. My buddy Tom almost bought a "vintage" watch from some Instagram ad last month. Paid with PayPal so he had some protection, thank goodness. Turned out to be a cheap knockoff with the wrong date wheel and everything. Took him three weeks to get his money back. Stuff like that makes you wonder who's even checking these ads before they go live.
