That old bone scraper at the museum in Santa Fe really got me thinking

I was at a small archaeology exhibit in Santa Fe last summer, just killing time between jobs. An old guy standing next to a display case pointed at this 800 year old bone scraper and said "see that wear pattern? That's from three different right-handed people." He was a retired archaeologist and he just saw so much in that one tool... it was like he could read their whole lives from the scratches. Has anyone else had a moment where one little thing in a display suddenly made ancient people feel real?

That kind of detail is exactly what makes you realize they were just people like us.

Joke all I want about my own lack of observation, but @hayden709 is right, those little details really hit you.

Totally. I found my grandpa's old work ID badge and just stared at it for ten minutes.
