A realtor in Scottsdale told me I was wasting time at morning mixers

I was at a Chandler chamber event last week and this guy with 15 years in the game said most people at those early meetups are just there for free coffee and don't follow up. He said he only goes to evening industry specific groups now and his close rate doubled. Is there a better type of networking event in the East Valley that actually leads to real work?

Derek from Chandler was probably just salty about wasting his own time at those mixers. I've been to plenty of morning events where I landed solid leads just by being the one person who actually talks to people instead of staring at my phone. If your follow up game is weak, it doesn't matter if it's morning or evening - you're gonna get the same result either way.

Right, but even the evening ones have people just showing up to grab a beer and stare at their phones. I've seen it at evening mixers too, just with fancier drinks. It's always about who you actually talk to, not what time the clock says.

Ugh the "free coffee" comment hit me hard because it's so true! I've been to those morning mixers where half the people are just grabbing a cup and glancing at their phones the whole time. The guy with 15 years experience probably knows what he's talking about since evening groups tend to attract people who actually pay to be there and want to connect. Industry specific gatherings weed out the tire kickers because everyone has a real reason to show up. I'd focus on evening groups tied to your niche like construction or finance whatever you do.
