Blew $200 on a 'premium' networking app that was just a glorified Facebook group

Signed up for this Arizona biz networking app called ConnectLocal after a guy pitched it at a Tempe meetup. Paid $200 for the year membership thinking I'd get warm leads. Turned out it was just a bunch of business owners posting their own ads and nobody actually replied to messages. I sent out 15 connection requests over 3 weeks and got 2 responses, both from people trying to sell me insurance. Anyone else fall for one of these paid networking platforms that turned out to be a dud?

Did you actually try going to the in-person events or just send DMs?

Drove 45 minutes to one of those networking meetups and honestly the vibe was completely different from what I expected. A lot of the serious connections happened during the lulls between speakers (like during coffee breaks or waiting for the bathroom), not the actual scheduled mingling time.
