Had a referral network meeting crash and burn on me last Tuesday

I went to this new business networking group in Tempe that someone from my Chamber recommended. Figured it would be like the others where you pass leads back and forth. But the facilitator spent the whole hour just pitching his own consulting firm instead of letting anyone talk. I walked out after 45 minutes and drove straight to a coffee shop to cool off. Has anyone else dealt with a networking meetup that was just a front for one person's sales pitch?

Paid $20 for the privilege of hearing one guy talk about himself for an hour. Cheaper than therapy I guess, but not by much. At least at the Chamber meetings you get a stale bagel with your sales pitch. Should have set an egg timer on my phone and walked out at the 10 minute mark when he started projecting his "vision board.

Oh man @norathomas you just described half the networking events I've been to this year. Vision boards are the new pyramid schemes I swear. Twenty bucks for a one man show and no bagel is robbery. At least at the Chamber you can zone out with a coffee and pretend to take notes. I bet he asked everyone to share their "why" too. Next time set that timer and bounce. Your time is worth more than his ego boost.
