I finally stopped treating every mixer as a sales call
For two years I went to every Phoenix chamber event and tried to hand out as many cards as I could. My rule was simple, talk to as many people as possible and move on. Then at a Scottsdale meetup last month, I spent 20 minutes just talking to one HVAC contractor about his crew problems in the summer heat. We never exchanged services, but he called me two days later with a lead on a warehouse fence job worth about $4,000. I got more from one deep chat than from thirty quick handshakes. Now I pick three people max and actually listen to what they need. Has anyone else found that slowing down at these events works better?
