I used to skip the small talk at Phoenix networking events
I was at a mixer in Scottsdale last month and went straight to my pitch with every person. A guy from a local print shop finally said, 'You know, I can't remember what you do, but I remember you didn't ask about my day.' That was it. I spent the next hour just asking people what they were working on and listening. Got three solid leads from that one shift. Anyone else find that slowing down works better?

Tried that once, felt like a robot. Now I just ask about their weekend first.

Networking is just talking to people, right? Do we really need a whole strategy for basic human chat? That guy from the print shop just wanted to be treated like a person, not a sales target.
