Picked a monthly mixer over a big expo booth in Phoenix, and I'm still not sure I made the right call
I run a small bookkeeping shop here in Phoenix. Back in February I had to choose between a $2,400 booth at a big business expo at the convention center or spending that same money on six months of a monthly networking mixer in Scottsdale.
I went with the mixer. The expo would have been one day with a few hundred people walking past. The mixer is maybe 40 people, same crowd each month, and I've gotten three steady clients out of it so far.
But here's the part that nags at me. Two people I met at the mixer kept saying the expo is where the real contracts get signed, and I skipped it. One of them got a city contract off that expo floor last year.
So now I'm wondering if I picked the slow steady route when I should have bet on the one big day. Anyone here done both? Did the expo ever actually pay off for you or was it mostly tire kickers?
