Pulled off a big referral at a Phoenix Chamber event last Thursday

I was at the Mesa lunch mixer near the Fountain Hills exit and my business card stack got knocked into a water glass. Total mess, cards ruined. Instead of panicking I just started talking to the guy next to me about his landscaping company. Turns out he needed exactly what my supplier offers and we set up a meeting right there. Ended up with a $2,000 contract just from being forced to chat instead of handing out cards. Anyone else have a happy accident like that work out better than their plan?

Oh man, that totally stings. I feel for you, I had a similar thing happen at a mixer near the Scottsdale airport where my entire stack of 50 cards got soaked from a leaky water bottle in my bag. And @amy154, you're absolutely right about keeping a backup set in the car, I started doing that after I had to write my number on a napkin for a potential client who was a big fish. It's funny how the universe forces you to actually talk to people when your plan falls apart. That 2k contract is a solid win out of a soggy mess.

Oh wow, that's a great point! Keep a backup set of cards in your car.

So @amy154, your backup cards would've still been wet if you'd dropped those too.
