So a mentor told me my networking pitch was 'pure cringe'
They said I sounded like a used car salesman in Phoenix and it stung but they were right. I dropped the rehearsed script and started asking people what they actually needed help with - been getting way better leads at Tucson meetups.

Ditched my whole elevator pitch after bombing three networking events in a row. Started walking up to people and just saying "what's the biggest headache in your work right now?" That one question got me more real conversations than any scripted intro ever did. Even landed a couple of repair jobs from guys who needed someone they could trust on short notice.

Tbh @norag66 that's genius - my buddy runs a small plumbing outfit and started doing the same thing at chamber of commerce mixers. He said people actually remember him now because he's solving their problems instead of just reading off a script.
