That expensive Chamber of Commerce membership was a total waste for my small consulting firm

I paid $1,200 last year for a Gold Chamber membership in Scottsdale thinking it would bring in clients. All I got was spammy emails and invites to breakfasts where nobody actually talked business, they just swapped business cards. After 6 months of zero leads, I canceled and used that cash for targeted Facebook ads instead. The ads brought in 3 solid contracts within 2 months. Has anyone else found Chambers to be overhyped for actual networking?

Did you ever go to one of those "member mixers" they push so hard? I signed up for a smaller chamber in my town and it was basically the same thing, just a bunch of people handing out cards without really listening to each other. Honestly felt like a social club for people who already had enough business, not a place to actually grow your network.

Exactly. Those mixers always feel like a handshake contest with no follow through.

Poke fun at those breakfasts, @abby_black - worst networking buffet ever.
