TIL my mentor electrician in Charleston said my panel labels were garbage and made me redo all 12 circuits
I finished a 200 amp panel swap in Charleston and was proud of my neat little labels on the cover. My mentor looked at it for ten seconds and said "a homeowner at 2am with a flashlight can't read this, do it again." He made me write full room names plus what each breaker feeds, like "kitchen outlets left of sink" instead of just "kitchen." Took me an extra 40 minutes and I was irritated at the time, but the next service call the homeowner found the right breaker in under a minute. Do you guys write detailed labels or keep it short and simple?
Forty minutes? That is nothing. Writing out "kitchen outlets left of sink" for every single circuit sounds like a whole afternoon of crawling around with a flashlight figuring out what the heck each one actually feeds. Your mentor was right though, I just can't believe he made you label all 12 at that level of detail on the spot. Half the panels I open just say "lights" or "plugs" and you spend twenty minutes flipping breakers to find anything.
