Appreciation post: I finally understood the point of 'ask anything' forums after a plumbing disaster
Last week, my kitchen sink backed up and I found a weird plastic toy clogging the pipe. I posted a blurry picture on a forum here asking if I needed a whole new P-trap. Three different people walked me through the simple fix in under an hour, saving me a $150 plumber call. How many other daily headaches could be solved just by asking the right group of people?

Yeah, @hugo825 is right about the bad advice, my neighbor once tried a "forum fix" and flooded his laundry room.

Tbh @milaprice your neighbor's story is exactly why I'm so picky about where I get plumbing advice now. My cousin followed some tips from a random Facebook group and ended up with a sink that wouldn't drain for a week. Hugo is dead on about trusting people who actually deal with this stuff regularly.

Honestly, is that plastic toy thing actually common? Tbh I've pulled out way more hair and grease clumps than toys from my own pipes. The real win here is finding a forum where people actually know their stuff and don't just guess. It's so easy to get bad advice that makes things worse.
