Finally figured out my coil split wiring after 4 years of muddled tone

I've been building this guitar pedalboard setup since 2021 and always thought a single coil tap just meant thinner sound, so I kept cranking the gain to compensate. Last month I watched a demo where the guy rolled his volume knob at 7 instead of 10 and suddenly the split sounded chimey and clear, and that's when it hit me I was fighting the pickup instead of working with it. Anyone else have an 'aha' moment where the fix was just changing one setting you'd ignored forever?
