Hot take: asking my barber for advice beat asking my dad about my career
Last week I was sitting in the chair at Ray's on 9th and I just let it all out about hating my warehouse job. He stopped cutting and said he spent 12 years doing something he hated before he picked up clippers at 34, and he actually asked me questions about what I liked instead of just nodding along. My dad, who I love, just keeps telling me to "stick it out" every time I bring it up, and that's it. I walked out of there with a fresh cut and a list of three jobs I'd never thought about trying. Has anyone else gotten better life advice from a total stranger than from family?
