I finally tried that $8 phone repair kit from the hardware store and it actually worked on my kid's cracked screen
My 11 year old dropped her phone on the driveway two Saturdays ago and the screen was a spiderweb. The shop in town quoted $120, which felt crazy for a phone she got for free from her aunt. I grabbed a $8 kit from work (I manage a hardware store) that had a tiny screwdriver, a suction cup, and a plastic pry tool. Watched a 6 minute video, took it slow, and had the new screen on in about 40 minutes. It's been 9 days and it still works fine, no dead spots or weird colors. Now I'm wondering what else I've been paying people to do that I could just handle myself. What's something you were sure would be a disaster but turned out okay?
Worth flagging that most of those cheap kits come with cheap glass, so it can feel different or crack easier than the original. Keeping it in a case would help it last longer than 9 days.
