My garage door spring snapped at 6 AM on a Sunday, what a mess
I was heading out to grab coffee and the whole thing came crashing down, bent the track on one side. Tried fixing it myself but the tension on those springs is no joke, almost took my hand off. Anyone know a solid garage door company that won't charge an arm and a leg for emergency callouts?

...and that's exactly why I tell people to never mess with those springs yourself. A buddy of mine lost two fingers doing the same thing a few years back. They're under extreme tension and one slip can send that coiled steel through a wall. For a Sunday emergency call, you're going to pay a premium, that's just how it works. I'd call around to a few local places and ask what their minimum trip charge is, not the big chains. Some smaller guys will do it for a flat fee if you let them know the situation up front. But whatever you do, don't try to patch up that bent track yourself, it'll just cause more damage down the line.

That friend losing two fingers thing always gets me when people bring it up. Were they using winding bars or just some random screwdriver when it happened? I've seen those springs launch through drywall like it's nothing but I always wonder how many people actually use the right tools vs just winging it and hoping for the best.
