Swapped my old manual can opener for a side cutter last month and it's a game changer

I used to fight with that standard can opener that leaves those nasty sharp edges on the lid. Every time I opened a can of beans or soup, I'd get a little metal shaving in the food or cut my finger trying to pry the lid off. Then last month my buddy at a cookout showed me his side cutting can opener. It cuts along the side seam instead of the top, so the lid pops off smooth with no sharp edges at all. I picked one up at a hardware store in Austin for like 12 bucks after that. Now I open cans in about 5 seconds flat and my fingers are way happier. Anyone else made the switch and noticed a big difference?

But here's something people overlook - those side cutters are way better for camping or tailgating since you're not left holding a razor sharp lid in the dark. I used to stash my old can opener in a drawer and forget it, but now I keep this one clipped to my kitchen magnet strip because it doubles as a quick bottle opener. The lid comes off so clean you can use it as a small makeshift mini scoop for pet food or dry goods.
