That time at the state fair in Ohio changed how I pay for everything now

I was at the Ohio State Fair last August and bought a hot dog from a cart. The guy handed me this janky card reader and I swiped my card without thinking. Two days later I saw $240 in charges from places I never went to. The bank refunded it but it took 3 weeks and a ton of paperwork. Now I only use cash at any event or place with those portable readers. Has anyone else gotten burned at a fair or festival like that?

Honestly I used to think people were just paranoid about card skimmers at fairs but getting hit like that changes everything real quick. Now I'm the same way if the reader looks even a little off I'm pulling out cash instead of risking it again. Learned my lesson the hard way just like you did.

Had the same thing happen at a county fair in Indiana.

Same situation at a county fair in Indiana sounds like you just got unlucky, most of those places run a solid game.
