The 5-year old advice about pouring concrete in the rain finally bit me

Back in 2019, an old concrete guy told me never to pour when rain is expected, even if the forecast says only a 30% chance. I thought he was being dramatic, so I went ahead with a small patio pour in my backyard last month. Sure enough, a surprise shower hit 2 hours in, and the surface turned into a mess of pitting and washout. Spent the whole next day grinding it down and patching, which cost me about $150 in extra materials and a full Saturday. That guy worked 30 years for a reason, I guess. Has anyone else ignored simple advice and paid for it with time or money?

Haha, I feel this so hard. I once tried to waterproof a basement with nothing but YouTube videos and sheer overconfidence, ended up with a mini indoor pool. Guess who also learned the hard way that "30% chance" is a lie you tell yourself.

Oh come on, you can't blame the rain for every hiccup. Maybe the issue was your prep work or the mix itself, not a little sprinkle of water.

Ugh, "a surprise shower hit 2 hours in" just gave me FLASHBACKS. That exact thing happened to me with a sidewalk I was helping my brother with. I feel your pain with the grinding and patching, it's SUCH a miserable way to spend a weekend. That old concrete guy was definitely not being dramatic, he was being a hero trying to save you from this exact mess. Some lessons just have to be learned with a sore back and a lighter wallet, I guess. You're not alone in ignoring advice like that, trust me.
