Wasted $80 on a 'smart' water leak detector that beeped at nothing

I bought one of those wifi water leak detectors from Amazon last month after seeing a deal. It was supposed to send alerts to my phone if any water hit the floor. Well, the thing went off at 3 AM for NO reason. No water, no leaks, nothing. The manual said to place it on a flat surface near appliances. I put it near the washing machine and it screamed every other night. After two weeks of lost sleep I pulled it out and tossed it in a drawer. Now I just check under the sink with a flashlight like a normal person. Has anyone else had a gadget that was more trouble than it was worth?

Did they test the one you got though?

Saw a YouTube video where a guy tested 6 of those and only 2 worked right.

Oh man that sounds like a nightmare. @samwalker that's a good point about testing, but honestly I feel like most of these home gadgets are just overengineered junk. My girlfriend bought a "smart" rice cooker that kept turning itself on at random times so we had to unplug it every night. Did you ever try contacting the seller or just toss it?
