I tried answering every awkward question my coworkers asked for a week and learned something about myself
Last week I decided to stop dodging weird questions at work, like when Dana asked why I eat lunch alone in my car every day, and just give honest answers. By Thursday three people had opened up to me about stuff they were scared to ask anyone else, and I realized most of my dodging was just fear of looking dumb. Has anyone else tried being the person who answers instead of deflects, and did it backfire on you or actually help?
So what happened when someone asked you something you actually didn't want to answer? Like, was there a question that made you stop and go "nope, not touching that one"? I'm curious because there's a line between being open and just letting people walk all over you. Dana asking about your car lunches is one thing, but what if someone asked why you got passed over for that promo or why you and whats-his-name stopped talking? Did anyone push too far and you had to pull back? That's the part I want to know about, where the honest thing turns into oversharing you can't take back.
