My car broke down on I-55 last Thursday and everything went right for once
Engine light came on near Springfield at 4 PM, and somehow a mechanic had a cancellation and fixed a bad alternator in 20 minutes for $80 total. Has anyone else had a breakdown turn into a lucky break like that?

Make sure you always ask about shop minimums next time you call around. I had a similar thing happen on I-55 a couple years back near Joliet, my serpentine belt snapped and a shop charged me just for the part and twenty minutes labor cause they squeezed me in between jobs. Some mechanics are awesome like that if you catch them at the right time, but it's rare so don't bank on it happening again.

Did you catch that one article going around about how some shops are actually getting dinged for quoting fake high minimums? Seems like a lot of places are finally getting called out for that, which is good lol.
