Question about choosing between a cheap dentist and a pricey one

Last month I had a cracked molar and had to pick between two dentists. One was a chain place near my house in Phoenix that quoted me $180 for a filling, and the other was a private practice across town that wanted $420. I went with the cheap one because money is tight, and honestly it was fine for the first week. But now the filling feels rough when I bite down, and the dentist said it's just my imagination when I went back. The expensive place has a 4.9 star rating and my neighbor swears by them, but I already paid the cheap guy. Has anyone else gambled on the lower price for dental work and regretted it, or is this just a one-off bad luck thing?

That $240 difference is the exact same amount I paid to get a crown redone last year, so congrats, you got a two-for-one deal on pain. The rough bite thing is classic cheap filling behavior, they leave it high and then gaslight you about it like you're biting down wrong on purpose. I'd give it two weeks max before that spot starts feeling like sandpaper on every chew, and then you're back at the door with your receipt and a whole new level of trust issues. Honestly, my neighbor did the same thing at a place in Mesa and ended up paying twice when the filling cracked three months later.
