Question about cleaning calcification off a faucet aerator

I spent over 2 hours this past weekend trying to get the water pressure back in my kitchen sink after it slowed to a trickle. Took me way too long to figure out it was the aerator clogged with white buildup. I unscrewed it, soaked it in vinegar for 30 minutes, scrubbed with an old toothbrush, and nothing changed. Then I tried CLR for about 20 minutes and it still looked crusty. Finally I just poked the holes with a sewing needle and rinsed it under hot water. That did the trick in under 5 minutes. Has anyone else had a simple fix like this take way longer than it should have because you overthought it?

Honestly though, was it the poking or the rinsing that actually did the work for you?

The poking holes with a sewing needle" thing is hilarious because I did the exact same thing after trying vinegar for an hour and getting nowhere. Felt like such a dummy when it worked instantly.
