The $13 showerhead that ate my entire Saturday morning

Bought a cheap rainfall showerhead from the hardware store by my place in Columbus last month. Took it home, unscrewed the old one, and water sprayed everywhere except down. Turns out I forgot the plumber's tape and the washer inside was cracked. Wasted about 2 hours wrestling with it before I watched a 4 minute video that showed me the trick. Finally got it sealed by noon, but man, my whole morning went down the drain. Has anyone else had a simple fix turn into a half-day project over something this silly?

Teflon tape is cheap, buy three rolls so you never run out mid-disaster.
