The day I found out I'd been loading the dishwasher wrong for 11 years

I'm 34 and I've lived in 5 different apartments since college. Every single one had a dishwasher and I always just shoved bowls in facing up, cups on the top rack, whatever fit. Then last week my sister visited my place in Columbus and she watched me load it and just went quiet. Then she said "you know those little tines on the bottom are for plates to lean against, not for spearing them like meat on a grill." I looked at my rack and yeah, I had plates standing straight up, basically blocking the spray arm. She showed me how the water needs to hit the dirty side directly. I felt like an idiot. 11 years of cloudy glasses and half-clean forks. Has anyone else had that moment where a relative casually pointed out something you'd been doing wrong for over a decade?
