TIL I was dosing my sourdough starter wrong for 2 years, and a $4 jar from Goodwill tipped me off
For 2 whole years I was feeding my starter with warm tap water straight from the faucet. Last Tuesday I grabbed a cheap glass jar at a Goodwill in Tacoma and noticed the water had a faint chlorine smell when I poured it in. I started letting the water sit out overnight and my loaf spring went from sad pancake to a real oven rise in 3 bakes. I feel silly but also kind of proud that I finally caught it. Has anyone else figured out a dumb mistake like this way later than they should have?
