TIL my grandma's 1972 recipe card had a typo that changed the whole dish
I was digging through her old box last month and found she wrote '1/2 cup salt' instead of sugar in the cornbread, so I tried it as-is and the salty-sweet thing actually works weirdly well, anyone else ever accidentally follow a misprint and like it better?

That salty-sweet thing you stumbled on is actually a real flavor combo, like salted caramel but for bread. I did something similar with a brownie recipe that said "1 teaspoon of chili powder" instead of cinnamon, and now I add a tiny pinch of cayenne to every batch. The heat just makes the chocolate taste deeper somehow. Kind of makes you wonder how many of grandma's "mistakes" were happy accidents.
