Walked through my old elementary school last week... the library is gone
I went back to visit the town where I grew up, and I stopped by my old elementary school just to see if it looked the same. The whole building felt smaller than I remembered, which I guess is normal, but what really got me was the library. They turned it into a computer lab with rows of Chromebooks and no reading nook at all. I asked the front office lady about the books and she said most of them got donated to a community center a few years back. I remember spending hours in that room reading through the whole Magic Tree House series and picking out new ones from the display rack. It just felt strange that something that was such a big part of my childhood was just gone like that. Has anyone else gone back to a place from their past and found it totally different?

You ever think maybe the books just weren't getting used anymore and they made a practical call? I get being nostalgic but kids today are on computers anyway. Donating them to a community center sounds better than throwing them in a dumpster. Not trying to be harsh, just saying the library probably meant more to you than it did to the average second grader.

My niece loved getting those old picture books from the community center.

Wait, wait wait. Did you actually just say a library full of books "probably meant more to you than it did to the average second grader"? That's wild. So the kids using the library and enjoying those books don't count because they're not the same generation as the people who remember the library being there? I mean, sure, kids use computers now but that doesn't mean a book is worthless. That's like saying since we have Netflix we should just donate all our TVs to a community center too. Just feels like a weird way to dismiss the whole thing entirely.
