Warning: that diner off exit 27 is not the same place it was 10 years ago
Stopped at The Grill on my way through Ohio last week and the hash browns were frozen, not shredded fresh like they used to. Has anyone else had a favorite spot just quietly change their recipes without saying anything?

I mean I actually hit that place two weeks ago and I thought the hash browns were fine. Maybe it varies by day or who is working the grill. I had the eggs over easy and they came out exactly how I remember them from years ago. The coffee was definitely weaker though, that much I will agree on. Idk maybe I just got lucky with my batch but I would not write the whole place off just yet.

Ha! I'd probably eat drywall too if it had enough hot sauce on it.

Did you try asking them to cook the hash browns a little longer if they seemed off? I've done that at a few diners and they usually dont mind since it takes two seconds to throw them back on the griddle. Could be the shift change or the morning rush messes with consistency, but honestly if the eggs were solid that means the basics are still there. Coffee though, yeah that's harder to fix since its the whole batch, maybe ask for a fresh pot if youre feeling brave.

Burnt my mouth on that weak coffee because I was trying to get some caffeine before realizing it was basically brown water, so at least you warned me. My taste buds are clearly not reliable judges of much these days since I also thought frozen hash browns were the real deal until I read this post. Pretty sure I'd eat drywall if it had enough salt on it, so maybe I'm not the best person to ask about recipe changes.
