Finally caught a mistake in my star stacking software
I kept wondering why my Andromeda photos looked off. Turns out the stacking program was misaligning frames by 2 pixels due to a temperature calibration error. Who else has had weird artifacts they thought were normal for months?

My first time stacking Orion I thought those weird squiggly lines were just noise from my old DSLR. Three months later I realized my tripod had a loose leg that was letting the camera wobble during exposures. Couldn't believe it took me that long to notice the thing was basically dancing around out there.

Three months though... that's rough. What kind of squiggly lines were you seeing exactly? Were they like long wavy streaks or more of a messy blur across all the stars? I'm trying to picture what that actually looks like in a stacked image versus just normal tracking error.
