My old tripod leg snapped right as the Milky Way was rising

It happened last Saturday at Joshua Tree, and I had to MacGyver it with gaffer tape and a rock. Anyone have a solid tripod recommendation under $200 that can handle some desert wind?

Honestly, that's rough timing. Tbh, for desert wind you might want to look a bit above that budget for something truly solid.

Oh man, my buddy tried to save money on his desert trip last year! He got the cheaper gear and it totally fell apart in the first sandstorm. Sometimes spending a little more upfront saves a huge headache later.

Yeah, and it's not just about the wind. The cheap stuff uses thin zippers and weak stitching that sand gets into and just shreds. A good jacket will have taped seams and tougher fabric that can actually handle being scoured for days.
