PSA: spent 4 months throwing away my Milky Way shots before realizing my tripod was on a wooden deck
Every 20 second sub at my usual spot outside Flagstaff had little streaks and I kept blaming my polar alignment. Turns out just walking around the yard vibrated the boards enough to smear things at 200mm, so has anyone else had a setup ruined by something that dumb?
Been there with the deck thing, except mine was an old wooden balcony and I thought my mount was slipping. What fixed it for me was putting down a thick rubber mat under each tripod leg, the kind you get for a washing machine. Cut three squares and set the feet right on them, and the 30 second subs cleaned up right away. Also learned to stop walking around during a run, even inside, because floor boards carry that stuff forever. Cheap fix and way less work than tearing up the deck. Hope that saves you some hair pulling.
