Spent 45 minutes trying to stack a single photo of the moon last night
I took like 50 shots of the moon with my newish telescope and thought I'd finally try stacking them in Autostakkert. Big mistake. I kept getting error messages about file formats and had to convert everything from .png to .avi using some random program I found. Then the alignment graphs looked all wrong and I couldn't tell if I was doing it right. Took me an extra 30 minutes of googling and watching a tutorial just to figure out I needed to trim the video length. Anyone else struggle with stacking software or is it just me?

Nah I gotta call you out on this one. Stacking is honestly pretty simple once you get the basics down. You shouldn't be using .png files for lunar stuff anyway, thats for deep sky objects. Just shoot video with your telescope camera or even a phone held up to the eyepiece and save it as .avi right from the start. Autostakkert loves that format. The alignment graphs look weird because your seeing individual frames out of focus or with bad seeing not because the software is broken. Trim the first and last few seconds of shaky footage and let it do its thing. It took me maybe 10 minutes my first time.
