Tried to take a picture of the Orion Nebula with my phone taped to my telescope
I used a roll of duct tape and a lot of hope, but the final image looked like a blurry gray smudge with a piece of lint in the middle. My neighbor saw it and asked if I'd taken a picture of a dirty lens cap. Has anyone actually gotten a decent phone shot of a DSO, or is that just a myth?

Oh man, my attempt at Jupiter looked like a shaky potato!

Totally get the "shaky potato" thing. I used to think a phone could do it if you were just steady enough. What changed my mind was trying to shoot Saturn. Even with a tripod, the phone's tiny sensor just turns it into a fuzzy blob, no rings in sight. You really do need that bigger glass to pull in the light.

Yeah, it's a total myth, I'm convinced. My own "Andromeda Galaxy" shot was just a weird glow that looked more like a streetlight. I feel you, @valw36, my Jupiter was a wobbly mess too, even with one of those fancy phone holder clamps. The problem is the phone camera just can't collect enough light, no matter how still you get it.
