Been doing body work for 15 years and just realized I was using filler way too thick

Yep, been there. My first car looked like it had a heavy winter coat.

Wait, quarter inch? Like 0.25 inches thick? That sounds insane, man. I mean, I thought I was being aggressive with like 1/8 inch in some spots, but that's a whole other level. How did you even get it to stay on without sagging or running everywhere? I'm genuinely surprised it lasted three months before cracking, honestly. Maybe it's just me but that sounds like a nightmare waiting to happen from the start.

Can I ask how thick we're talking? Because I did the exact same thing on a 78 Camaro back in the day. Laid it on almost a quarter inch thick in some spots, thought I was saving time by not doing as much metal work. Three months later that stuff cracked all the way down the quarter panel. Had to grind it all off and start fresh. Learned that lesson the hard way just like you.
